Empowering Girls and Boys through Menstrual Hygiene Education in Nigeria on MHDay2024

SuS Pads reusable pad training workshop

Project Overview

In Nigeria, menstruation is often shrouded in secrecy, leading to a lack of awareness and understanding about menstrual hygiene management. Our project aimed to change this by organizing a menstrual hygiene training session for young girls and boys in Akwanga North Secondary School Nasarawa State Nigeria. The workshop was designed to educate participants about menstrual health, hygiene, and management, while also promoting a culture of openness and inclusivity around menstruation.

Key Highlights:

* 81 girls and boys attended the workshop, including a few boys who were introduced to period education for the first time

* Participants received hands-on training on reusable pad making and were equipped with essential skills to manage their menstrual hygiene effectively

* The workshop emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene management and provided guidelines on how to maintain healthy habits during menstruation

* Boys were engaged in conversations about menstruation, promoting a more inclusive and supportive community

Project Impact:

By promoting menstrual health hygiene and management, we are confident that our project will have a lasting impact on the lives of the participants. With the ability to manage their periods effectively, these girls and boys will be better equipped to attend school regularly, stay healthy, and achieve their full potential.

Project Sustainability:

Our project is committed to creating a #PeriodFriendlyNigeria by promoting menstrual hygiene education and empowerment. We believe that every individual, regardless of gender, deserves access to accurate information about menstruation and should be able to manage their periods with confidence.
